We came here after the wait for Sunday brunch at Bay Local was an hour and a half long for 3 people around 12. Soooo glad we cane here. It was so freaking fantastic! We got sat right away and our waitress, man I wish I could remember her name was excellent. She was super witty when things were messed up that it made it enjoyable. We each got a type of manmosa and they were excellent. Also got the specail of crown royal apple with apple juice and cranberry, some jack Daniels drinks and something else and each were mixed perfectly. For meals I got the Frogman burrito, no sausage no bacon, and holy hell mother of sweet baby Jesus it was huge!!!!! Cut it in half and saved the rest for later. The boyfriend got the omlete that was chicken, blue cheese and hot sauce and he devoured it. And our buddy got one the bennies and again there was nothing left! This brunch spot is amazing

Been here a few times. The food can be good. Very filling (good portions). But today, I ordered onion rings and "the Seabee burger" and my wife ordered "the Shipmate sandwich" and fries. There was literally three other people in the restaurant and it took what felt like 40 minutes for us to get our food! I would understand if the restaurant was busy but there were four waitresses and only three tables (total of 5 people) ! Only one of them seemed to be actually working and I think it was the manager. Not to mention that we weren't at least greeted or asked if we needed anything by any of the waitresses nor did they apologize for the long wait. Instead, all the waitresses were chit-chatting behind the counter instead of focusing their attention to their (3)tables. When we finally got our meals, my onion rings were completely over-cooked! I'm not too picky and I hate to waste food so I ate one, they were burnt .I don't know who allowed those O-rings to leave that kitchen. Whoever it was, doesn't believe in food quality. However, the medium rare burger was cooked to perfection! I appreciate that they offer medium rare, some places do not. But no way in hell was I going to eat another onion ring and pay for it. I told our waitress the onion rings were too burnt and she tried to offer me French fries or something else. If she really cared about customer satisfaction, she would have sent those onion rings back herself. I just didn't want to wait another 40 minutes for burnt fried food. At least she did not charge me for the onion rings. Even though I still would have refused to pay for them if she did. Overall, the food is good. Nothing memorable. Some of the waitresses here come off as superficial and lack professionalism. The decor is nice, the theme is Vintage 50's/ military. Almost every item in the menu is named after an affiliation with the the military. However, they do not offer any military discount. Ironic. I don't like to write bad reviews, but this was my experience. I would recommend that the manager asks for a little more professionalism and to ask the waitresses not to pet any animals and then serve food to their customers. One or two bad reviews isn't going to affect this place in the least! This place is a hot spot for military, attracts locals and has two locations. Anchor Allie's isn't going anywhere as long as there are military members in Virginia Beach. And that's not such a bad thing.

My boyfriend and I came here with our 2 month old in the morning for breakfast. I heard about the place and I saw the good reviews. However, our experience was less than spectacular. We sat down outside. The waitress asked for drinks and we got waters and mimosas. My boyfriend ordered a burger on a pretzel bun and asked of the burger came with garnish. The waitress said yes. I ordered the ham Benedict with a side of home fries. We had been sitting there for a while. Then the people who ordered after us got their food. Our server came to us and said did y'all order? Uhm yes? She took our order how would she not remember. She then came a brought us complementary fruit. Then a table of 5 got their food who was sitting after us. Our food then come out. At this point we had been waiting a hour. She brought us banana bread for the wait. My boyfriends garnish was not in his burger and she had to go get that. She also stated that the wait was so long because the kitchen was backed up. This comment does not make sense to me because if the kitchen was backed up every ones food would be late. One of the guys next to us then says, are you going to comp their meals they waited a hour? The waitress said she had no say in that but she would see. We get our bill and she took "20% off". More like she took 20% off everything and it added up to less than a dollar off our bill for over a hour wait. I do not like to make a scene and if the business believes I should pay for that type of service, then fine. I will just not return. I will state the note I left on my receipt: I never leave a 0 dollar tip but this place is absolutely ridiculous. We waited here over a hour and you take a $1 off? No we will not be returning and we will tell others to not return. Fruit and some bread does not substitute for horrible service. And if your kitchen was backed up everyone's food would be late. Don't treat your customers like idiots.

As I'm going through my wallet this morning I pull out a business card to Anchor Allie's. They were a participating restaurant at Saturday's Samoa Soiree and I really enjoyed their salmon dish so I decided to give this place a try. I really wasn't sure what to expect. The pictures on their website are a pretty good representation of what you'll find there (read into this, please). I tried the USS Torsk, ground white turkey and pepper jack cheese toasted on a wheat bun. Instead of french fries I went with their vegetable of the day, grilled asparagus. Both the sandwich and asparagus were outstanding. The meal felt fresh. Servings were adequate and I left without any sort of bloating feeling.

Been here plenty of times before. It was recommended to try the Corpsman and I was not disappointed. It's a burger on a bagel, greasy (not a bad thing), and really damn good. :) The service was outstanding. My waitress was Taylor, whose personality states that she is definitely a morning person, which can bring anybody who is not, a bright morning. I'll continue to return to this awesome place.

I was looking for brunch on yelp and decided to try this place out. I love the military theme through out the restaurant from the waitress outfits, the posters, drink options, and entrees. The first time we visited the bartender was very helpful and even gave us free tickets to a local MMA fight that supported military tremendously. We've tried their burgers, omelets, chicken sandwiches and everything was tasty. Our last visit was especially nice because our waitress was fun and full of energy. Don't pass this place up great food and great service doesn't get any better than that.

Delightful bright spot for our Sunday brunch. A few tables were available at 10:30, the bar seating was wide open. Lots of unique and intriguing dishes. Spectacular and eclectic cocktail menu. We had omelets, will not do that again, not because of quality but the style. We prefer a fluffier technique following the classic tradition rather than the egg tortilla or crepe- like wrap. We'll be back... too many items to try!
(4)Britney S.
Best brunch place around. I've recommend there seafood omelet. Everything here taste fresh and made with love. It's a little small inside but defiantly worth 100% of your time! Everyone there always seems happy and nice!

I was able to check this spot out with Lorie on a random Monday for lunch. We had read and heard good things about it and naturally we were excited to try out a new spot. Anchor Allie's is tucked away in a small strip mall adjacent to the Kroger off of Shore Drive just past Pleasure House. They sport an interesting nautical theme which is highlighted well by their friendly and attractive front of the house staff. Anchor Allie's isn't very big so it's easy for it to fill up, Lorie and I arrived just before the lunch rush and we were greeted fairly quickly. To be honest, Lorie was already seated when I arrived but our server was quick to greet us and make us feel welcome. We looked at the menu and were both happy to learn that Allie's served breakfast all day. Since I'm a big fan of omelets I had to try one of theirs. I ordered the Master Diver, which was a surf and turf omelet filled with steak and shrimp. Lorie opted for lunch and picked the Blue Angel burger. The Blue Angel was a burger topped with crabmeat. We decided to split our dishes so we both were able to taste two menu items in one sitting. Lorie's burger was fantastic - the patty was cooked to temp and the crabmeat on top was a great complement. Lorie ordered sweet potato fries and they were just as tasty. I found that topping them with a little brown sugar was a good move since it combined sweet with savory. My omelet was very good but I did question its size. After being spoiled by Charlie's fluffy omelets one has certain expectations for them when visiting other establishments. But at the least in the flavor and taste departments the Master Diver exceeded expectations. Lorie and I were both pretty stuffed but Anchor Allie's offered a dessert which, in my opinion, sets them apart. They offered a fried Oreo sundae - the mere mention of it meant I had to try it. According to our server the kitchen takes three Oreos and dips them in chocolate pancake batter. Then they deep fry it for a time, place it in a bowl with vanilla ice cream, drizzle it with hot fudge and confectioner's sugar and serve it. Once I took a bite all I could think about was how good it was. When you break apart an Oreo it reveals a nice gooey cream that melted while it was fried. So the entire dish was amazingly sweet while it combined both hot and cold. I enjoyed it very much - so much that every visit since has resulted in me ordering it each time. Anchor Allie's fried Oreo sundae alone is worth the visit. Overall, I enjoyed my dining experience here. The good food, combined with the excellent service is really all you can ask for. As an added incentive the establishment offer a punch card for frequent visitors - ten meals validated then the 11th is free. They also (but I think they since ended it) offer morning happy hour - discounted prices on mimosas and bloody Marys. In my opinion, it's a great way to start any day, so long as you're not on the way to work. JEV

The food was okay, nothing too special here, except for the servers. The place was packed so we sat at the bar. I ordered the blueberry pancakes, bacon, and hash browns. The hash browns weren't that great and the blueberry pancakes seemed like they were lacking something? They were very dry and powdery. The bacon was amazing, because, well, bacon.

I previously left a less than stellar review after a bad experience 4 months ago. I had written this place off until I logged back in after being off for a while. I was contacted by the owner, Allie with an apology for my experience as well as thanking me for my feedback. I felt like I should give them another chance, after all the rave reviews on here the food had to be good; and since we all have 'off' days and maybe my waitress and the kitchen staff were having just that. Came in for lunch on a Sunday around 1 with my husband, hoping to avoid the brunch crowd. I think we did, as service was attentive. We were met by the same cute, friendly hostess and sat quickly. The manager, Nicole greeted us and took our drink orders after also apologizing for my last experience. She then brought us a complimentary fruit plate, which was an amazing gesture and also amazingly fresh and delicious. The hardest part of ordering was deciding since so many things sounded so tempting! Nicole suggested The Corpsman, which my husband then ordered. Great suggestion! He loved it and I can also say it was very good, since I had a bite. It was a warm bagel with hamburger patty, American cheese, egg, and bacon. It was cooked perfectly to medium. I got the Vanilla & Cinnamon French toast baguettes. Two words: best ever. I am officially ruined from having French toast anywhere but here now, it is just that good. Perfect amount of flavor and I love the baguette vs regular bread, which can get so soggy. I also had home fries, which were seasoned and cooked nicely. Our drinks never got empty, and I noticed the servers going around and topping off other diners' drinks. I look forward to warmer weather and sitting on the patio outside! They serve breakfast food all day, which I am partial to but they have lots of lunch choices as well. They offered us a fried Oreo sundae, can you imagine how sinfully good that must taste!? Allie truly cares about her restaurant and you can tell she is passionate about her business and food. She took my review as constructive criticism, and instead of getting defensive she saw an opportunity to correct mistakes that occurred when she was not around. As I said, the previous experience occurred 4 months ago! I'm sure they had kinks when they were newer, but they all seem to have been fixed! Allie also made us reservations so that she could be there when we came in and came and spoke with us afterwards. Wow! I am happy that they are opening another one on Independence! Nicole will be managing there and I can tell that she will be a great asset to that location. Overall, this is a wonderful restaurant with an awesome owner and delicious food. Honestly the best food we have had out in a long time, which was nice since my husband and I have a new baby and don't get out much. Thanks for an amazing experience, we will definitely be coming back!

I was expecting cute sailor girls! Where are they at!? Only one waitress/hostess I think? And she wasn't in the outfit! I'm disappointed! Lol Good drinks, meh food. Empty as no other. Wasn't memorable, which sucks since everyone else seems to love this place.

Came here on a whim with my man since we happened to be in the area. I had heard a lot of hype from fellow yelpers, so we decided to check it out. It's a small place at the corner end of a strip of shops. The location allows for some outdoor eating, but with the weather looking cloudy - we stuck to indoors. We got greeted immediately and given the menu in no time. It was well into lunch time, but we were both feeling breakfast which is luckily served all day. I got the standard breakfast fare of eggs, toast, bacon, and fruit bowl. Everything was cooked right and my fruit bowl was fresh. The man got some great pancakes that were big and flavorful. I have to say that I am impressed with how the place handles their theme. They could have totally been gimmicky with nautical gear throughout the place, but I think they did it just right with the waitresses dressed nautical yet not costumey and the place painted in blue with some touches of nautical stuff here and there. Downside is the place is small and we were seated pretty close to another table. I hope they weren't too annoyed with me talking with my man since we were catching up after a long week of work, but some things you can't avoid. I would definitely be back to check out some lunch items!

What a great little place. It's on the far right end of the little strip in the Kroger plaza near the Creek. Awesome people, Great service, GREAT food, plenty of parking. AND....... A full bar!!!!! It's a really cool strip mall version of HKs with better parking, and better food. I Stopped in again and had a pretty sweet "Irish Benedict" breakfast. This was a great twist on the normal Benedict except they used corned beef and soda bread, FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

My go to place for good food, great atmosphere and amazing people. I go to Anchor Allies at least once a week. Bonus: they carry Rum Chata which is amazing in coffee. I also love their Salmon salad with asparagus and everything for breakfast is good.

One of the best breakfeast places around here! Came from out of town for a wedding and checked out yelp and had such good reviews I had to try! The whole atmosphere was adorable, the food was amazing especially for the price. The waitress was dressed to par in her outfit that matched the restaurant theme! My boyfriend hates sausage gravy but tried a little of mine and loved it which was so surprising! I would defiantly come back here and recommend this place to anyone!

Cute place for Saturday brunch. I thought the sailor theme was cute. Food was good. Definitely pleasantly surprised by this place.

My friend and I enjoyed our luncheon at AA...Pleasantly greeted by Natalie. Arrived around 11:45am and glad I did as it got crowded! While they didn't have a soup of the day(boo), Natalie gave me her recommendations on the menu while I sipped on an O'Conner's El Guapo. I chose the Blue Angels Burger with sweet potato fries and a side Caesar. My friend ordered the Master Diver omelette and we split our dishes! Only way to roll! "Homemade dressing" sold me on the salad when I read it on the menu. I could barely taste the dressing and would have preferred more greens versus rib of the lettuce. That's just a personal preference though. Sweet potato fries tasted homemade and were on-point! I wish I didn't eat so slow so they could've stayed warm! The burger... WOW! Glad I went w/ white bread versus wheat or pretzel. There was definitely a kick to this burger yet very flavorful. Heavily seasoned but, not over-the-top. My fav... My friend's omelette was good too. I liked the cheese and the touch of fresh herb on top. Delicious. I preferred my burger. I felt bad because I got the side of the omelette with all the meat....teehee. We ended up trying a dessert they didn't have on the menu, a FRIED Oreo Sundae!!! Really!?? It was absolutely delicious! An OREO dipped in CHOCOLATE PANCAKE batter and fried!!?? I've always wanted to try a fried Oreo and am glad this was my first experience on top of ice cream. That dessert was the coup de gras to this visit. Need to go back to try other menu options and who knows, my future husband could walk through the door. Saw a lot of beautiful people.

My boyfriend had the frogman burrito which was huge and pretty darn tasty. I had a chicken or something or another sandwich (I can't exactly remember) which was nothing special but my side of sweet potato fries were horrendous. Half were uncooked on the inside and the other half were acceptable and Luke warm. BFs normal French fries were good. Fries aren't worth sending a meal back IMO, but I don't get how something so simple gets messed up. With all the options in the area, the option just didn't wow me or make me want to go back.
(3)Jennifer F.
Loved loved this sweet little place! Best server. So friendly. Food for five was all great. I had the shrimp tacos with pineapple. Fabulous. Fish sandwich, fish tacos, blue angel burger, and regular burger all got high marks. Sweet potato fries have sugar. They were well liked, and I loved the regular fries. $2 beers. Will definitely be back!
(5)Brad L.
I went here for breakfast on a weekday. As expected, there was only a few folks in there. I have wanted to try it and I can say I'm a fan. The waitress was great and provided just the right amount of service. Not to much, not to little. I had the Pancake platter with bacon and it was very good. I would recommend this location, or any of their other locations for breakfast. I have not had lunch or dinner there yet, but I'm looking forward to it. The menu looks awesome for those meals.
(4)Michael B.
Had an early dinner with my family. I had the tuna bites tacos that were incredibly good !!! With a cup of homemade corn and crab chowder. Nice heat ,flavorful. We had the crabcake sandwich which was very good. Also the chicken berry salad was terrific with big blackberries and .. Couldn't believe this place wasn't packed but we were early for dinner..
(5)Kali H.
Husband went there for lunch with his work buddies and loved it so much we went back for lunch the next day! Great food, great prices, and wonderful wait staff! highly recommend!
(5)Joe D.
Another excellent lunch here last Friday. I went with the lunch special on the chalk board which was a burger with mozzarella and red peppers. I added bacon of course. The meal also included fresh cut fries. As always it was a delicious hand made burger and the staff here is outstanding. Everyone is friendly and hospitable just isn't a big enough word. One more thing of note Anchor Allies now has a frequent diner card as well. Get it punched 8 times and you get a meal on the house. Pretty cool. I don't see a problem filling that up.
(4)Pat G.
We were immediately greeted by a lovey lady wearing Red lipstick, nice throw-back to match the décor. However before our butts hit our chairs, "what can I get you to drink". Well, "what do you have"...she listed off all the carbonated beverages, cold and hot teas.....hey it's 5pm..."Do you have any wine"? It looks like there is at least a partial bar behind the counter. We were directed to the list we hadn't had time to discover on the table. I ordered a Shirah (bottom shelf name) 6 oz for $7.00. He got the Sailors Delight, menu said lemonade, no other ingredient...for $7.00 he didn't taste anything else either. (Does anyone know who "Sailor Jerry" is?) As our waitress was taking our order she decided to go get paper/pen to write it down. He got the Steak Sandwich w/swiss, onion, mushroom and fries. I ordered the Ruben w/sweet potato fries. My fries were over cooked, perhaps that's how they are served in VB since this has happened at other venues. He described his sandwich as a piece of industrial meat slapped between a bun. The meat on my Ruben was very thick and tough (see .pic)...hard to chew. It was also unevenly seasoned, in one bite I got a mouthful of black pepper. Perhaps a slicer is needed in the kitchen to shave the protein thinner to make it more palatable. I don't know but I brought most of it home for my furry friend. For two dollars more I could have got an awesomely delicious ruben at Route 58. His steak slab was $13.36 to include the up charges for the swiss/onion/mushrooms. Total bill w/tax $44.99! I see a lot of room for improvement here.

Really cute place in the back of a shopping center. Service was A+++. French toast: pretty good. Wasn't very hot and the bread was a bit harder than I like, but good taste. I got bacon and fruit cup with it. Both good Biscuits and gravy: really good. Right amount of sausage and pepper. Grits: not good. Watery and didn't have any flavor. Sunny side up eggs: good Mimosa: good Really can't say enough good things about the service. Probably the best service I've had at a restaurant in Virginia beach. So nice, fast, and the servers were all helpful with one another.
(4)Annie B.
Great little place for breakfast. We first found this place when we first arrived in Virginia Beach. It was close by and sounded good. Well they lived up to the good reviews. I love going here for breakfast.
(5)Jim D.
Love this place. We have been coming since it opened and have always enjoyed the food. Unlike the 16 nail salons in within 2 miles of me, this is a welcome addition to the little Chicks Beach/Shore Drive strip. The owner is nice as can be, as are her servers. BTW - I wish J David H would come back and consider re-reviewing. Not because he isn't entitled to his own opinion... I just think this place deserves better now, a year later. As a casual observer - the dude checks in like 100000 times a day around town and is the king of Yelp in Hampton Roads. Give it another chance. People respect your reviews, and throwing a 1 star at a great local spot is rough. What do you want in our hood, another nail salon or new "Metro PCS" cell phone store?! BTW - quit taking my Dukedoms! I'm onto you pal :) -Jim

Lizzi! She is awesome. Food was spectacular. What a great place to come. Seriously I could rewrite all of the amazing posts about this place but it's not necessary. The hype is real. Get here and get here often. Great place.

This place is really good! Came for brunch. It is a great atmosphere and women are pretty. The good is really good and the drinks r better

This place is great. My first visit, won't be my last. Great atmosphere, good food and drinks be a great staff. Try everything on the menu.

The Anchor Allie's Bistro is a new addition to the Kroger Grocery area off of Shore Drive. Opposite Tropical Smoothie the small 8 strip store area has done very well for itself since we moved to this area 9 years ago. I was not planning on trying this place out so soon, but talked the kids into it because hey I figure it would be the first review. I ended up being wrong about that, some one almost immediately reviewed it with 5 stars and pics that were clearly set up by the owner/reviewer...not a great start. The motif of the place is done in a nautical theme, but seemed confusing to me. The waitress were dressed in 1940's sailor outfits which were okay, just not feeling a vibe here. We saw that the menu was mainly breakfast which seemed neat to the kids. They had some kids menus that looked like they were created by a kid themselves with almost no content and just lame. We got amazing attention from the attractive young girls that the kids enjoyed until it became smothering and annoying. We were the only customers and they were new and trying to create a good impression, so a little bit of a pass on the exuberant service of their wait staff. From talking to our waitress we found the specials on the board was recommended. With a new place I am absolutely going with a recommended items. So I decided on the Salmon Asparagus Omelet. The kids did a basic pancake which seemed pretty safe. About 15 minutes after being seated a couple came in and was seated. So some of the attention of the three waitresses shifted over to them which was a relief. The food came out in waves, mine first, one of the kids, then finally my last child's. NOT cool, they need to get the timing down in the kitchen. Again, they only opened Friday. However, I am sensing problems with every facet of this restaurant right now. My omelet was rubbery and the asparagus was limp and did not seem fresh. I forgot to take a pic of the plate, but the set up photo provided looked better and also did not have the asparagus on the top like mine did. The best thing about my meal was the potatoes, great flavor and ate them all. The marbled bread was also tasty. The kids said the pancakes were good, but bacon tasted like out of a microwave. The kids meal came with a drink and a small and I do mean small side. I asked to try a bite of the pancakes and agree they were good and I would have enjoyed them better. The Anchor Allie's has a decent location to work with, there is a lot of traffic in the area. However, starting a new business is tough as anyone will tell you. I just don't see this business being able to survive their lease if improvements are not made. It also makes my blood boil that the first review was without a doubt canned from a Ryan W. "I eat here all of the time", well at the point it was written they had been open two days!!! I will only come back if true fellow Yelpers give it a green light. It's not a place that I can support in my backyard and that is sad. Too many good choices on the Shore Dr. Corridor. This place better get it together and quick or they wont survive 3 mos on a year lease.

This visit turned out to be another weekday breakfast outing only this time I was with a few close friends. All agreed this was a great choice breakfast as no one was disappointed. See my initial review for comments on service, cleanliness, etc as no change from then. Meals: We ordered the Corpsman, the Frogman and variations of the Anchor. All were quite tasty. The Frogman, Allie's version of the breakfast burrito, is more than enough for the hungriest of appetites. Being a die hard Hispanic carnivore I would have preferred a more sausage, bacon and jalapeños but I have no complaints. The Corpsman harkened me back to my bachelor days when I'd take a day old burger add an egg and attempt to revive myself from a hard night drinking with one exception. Allie's version tasted awesome when mine was tolerable at best. Next time I'm adding jalapeños to the Corpsman and I'm sure it'll be perfect. I'll be back again and eventually make it around to try one of the sandwiches and burgers but until then I'm moving Allie's up a star to the big 5.

A friend and I went out for dinner while staying in little creek. So I pulled up yelp and decided to checkout this restaurant because it had 4 stars... Who rated this place??? Honestly, the least fresh seafood I've ever had and its on a coast line. I got the blue angel burger, I consider it edible at best. I wasn't impressed at all, but considering I was starving it filled me up. My friend got a fish burger (forgot the name). I could smell the Burger before seeing it. He didn't bother to finish it. The only redeeming thing was the orange juice was fresh and our waitress was friendly. Otherwise, it was a bad experience. There are MANY other places in the area with VERY fresh seafood for the same price. Needless to say, I won't be back.

Great food with a variety of creative items to choose; service was fantastic! What's not to love?!
(5)Rachel L.
Our favorite restaurant on Shore Dr to meet friends and grab lunch. The food is great and the staff is friendly. AA also has free wifi, it's a nice cozy place to bring in my laptop and get some work done while sipping on coffee and eating breakfast. Everything on the menu is delicious. My favorites are the seal steak salad, chili, lobster bisque, or the frogman burrito. Never a wait, tons of parking, and a full bar. Anchor Allies is such a cute little place, I definitely recommend eating here or grabbing a drink.
(5)Anne F.
This place is great! My office is located right down the road so I don't know why it took me so long to give it a try! My coworker and I got take out one day for our lunch and we were very impressed! I had the french toast which was just delightful! The only think I was disappointed about were the potatoes. They needed salt, were a little over cooked, I'll pass next time. My coworker had one of their burgers and it looked amazing! She said it tasted great too! It had a little bit of spice to it which she loved! We will definitely be coming back!
(4)Mallory C.
I have yet to find a complaint about this place. Service is amazing, food is amazing and I love the atmosphere in BOTH locations. One of my favorite restaurants in the area so far.
(5)Marina E.
I liked the location, the vibe, the staff, the decor, the crowd but my food was just meh. I wouldn't mind going for a second try. I think I just need to really stop ordering crab cakes. Without a doubt, unless I'm at Morton's or The Vintage Tavern, I always find them (crab cakes) disappointing.
(2)Erick K.
Great food, great atmosphere, awesome service! Cant wait to go back to try the rest of the menu!
(5)Kerina G.
I have had the pleasure of eating here a lot of times. I've dined in and have taken out and my experience has been amazing every single time. The atmosphere is wonderful, they are very personable and they are attentive without overcrowding you. They get to know you and make you feel like part of the family. I don't have a favorite because everything I have had I've loved. Can't pick one item that's better than another. And if you aren't sure of what to get, they give you awesome recommendations. I would recommend this place to everyone!!!

4/5 I have one thing I want you all to see. Sunday: 7am-9am $1.50 Mimosa $3.00. Bloody Mary Really, just look at that. Admire the beauty of it. Let it all sink in. (it was the same deal when we went there too, not sure if this is a every day thing, but gosh it's beautiful) Wanna get drunk while eating some of the best omelettes off base? This is the place to do it. With their naval/nautical theme, strong drinks, and great food, this little place is perfect for anyone looking to get off base and grab some food. Came here with my friend who works at the near by base after he told me it was a local "must have". The patrons seemed to be about 80% from the base, the atmosphere was great, a bunch of happy parties loudly chattering away in drunken stupor. I was pretty excited to check out the menu. When the menu's came out I had to read the name of every single entree, they were all named such cute things. "USS [shipname]" "The master diver!" etc. I ordered one of the omelettes (whose name I can't remember...). It came with chicken, spinach, cheese and sounded pretty appealing at the time. Edit : It was called the Sullivan, I recommend it! Our food came out pretty quick given how many people were there, so I was already impressed with their speed and anxious to dig in. I immediately was impressed. The omelette lost no flavor in cooking at all and they all came together perfectly. The egg was perfectly cooked, as was the chicken inside. The cheese, perfectly melted. The omelette was perfect. The HOMEFRIES on the other hand were quite "meh", as in I've had better. They seemed a bit dry and lacking in...something...not sure what though. But they weren't inedible and I still finished them off. All in all the experience was great and we both loved our meals (and he loved his drinks...trust me) 4/5 (As a note, I plan to come back here to get pictures next time I'm out that way, I was a derp and left my phone charger at home so I didn't want to waste any battery life to take pictures.)

I've taken my family here twice and really like the place. I have had a Tuna sandwich (off the special menu) with a house sauce that was amazing and split a burger with my wife. The kids breakfast meals are price well and are the right size for my kids who always want more. I am also a big fan of their Bloody Mary. There are a lot of places to eat out in Virginia Beach, this is now one of my favorites.

I popped into Anchor Allies for a late breakfast with some friends the day after Christmas. The restaurant is adorable with lots of Navy and retro pin-up touches. The specials are written on a chalkboard display, but I went with an menu choice - the vanilla bean french toast, two eggs, and bacon. The french toast is made with baguette bread, so it's not too filling, but the portion was generous. I asked for my eggs over-easy and they were perfect. I hate when they come out runny and these were done just right. Bacon was crispy - with a hint of brown sugar and the coffee was delicious and generously refilled. After I placed my order, I received a work phone call. I asked our server if she would put my order in when I came back from my call and she said she would. I was so thrilled that I wouldn't come back to a cold breakfast. The restaurant has a nice-sized bar with brunch drink specials like mimosas and bloody marys. They also have a good dessert menu, but I was too full from breakfast to order any. The restaurant filled up as we were eating and even though there was only 1 server on the floor, the service didn't suffer. I was pleasantly surprised.

When ever I want to treat myself I come here. The food is only matched by the service. The caramel apple is unique and awesome. If you like original good food this is the place I look forward to trying something new each time I come here.

My wife and I spotted this restaurant, when we were going to one of our other favorites and decided we had to give it a try. As we walked in, we were greeted by a bubbly young lady, who welcomed us and sat us down. I noticed the nautical/WWII style motif - and also noticed that there was '40s music playing over the speakers. Nice touch. The server gave us time to peruse the menu long enough for us to make our drink selections. Both my wife and I went with raspberry sweet tea, and it was awesome! Probably some of the best raspberry tea I've had (and I LOVE raspberries in every way, shape and form). Took a while to digest the menu, we were a little surprised it was only breakfast & lunch (and we were there for dinner), but hey - we'll try anything. In keeping with the nautical theme, everything is named for something tied to the Navy/military. I decided to go with The Veteran (Steak & Eggs on a pretzel bun), with a side order of potato salad. My wife ordered The Captain (Grilled chicken club sandwich on a pretzel bun) with a side order of fries. Originally, she ordered the shrimp macaroni salad - but they were out. The nasty weather as of late apparently interrupted their supply chain a bit. I'd say that's understandable. Our sandwiches came out both at the same time, and well prepared. Their pretzel buns were delicious, and the steak was cooked perfectly. The first half of my sandwich melted in my mouth, and I relished every bite. The second half I ran into some gristle problems with the steak - making it tough to chew through. I think a recommendation I would have would be to trim the steak a little better, or use a leaner cut - so that the customer doesn't have to work too hard. My wife's sandwich was really good, and as reported fries were just OK. The potato salad was very good. The owner came over and welcomed us and talked to us for a little bit - which I think is good for any small business. I would rate this a solid 3 1/2 stars, but bumped it up to 4 because of the service. We didn't feel suffocated, the service was good and overall we enjoyed the experience. There are other things on the menu that I wouldn't mind checking out in the future as well.

This place is quite tasty! Fresh food and friendly service! Love the pin up/old school Navy theme. The owner seems very personable and hands on. Great local find to grab a yummy and reasonably priced lunch!

Stopped in here for breakfast yesterday. Apparently we got there at the perfect time, we were seated immediately and not long after people started packing the place. My other half had a big burrito thing, it had to be about 5 pounds of deliciousness. I had the caramel apple omelet. I can not even put into words how delicious it was. Eggs, apples, Brie and a caramel sauce all mixed together was probably the most amazing thing I have ever tasted. I will definitely be coming back here regularly.

Absolutely love this place! It has such an adorable vibe and they have yummy food and attentive, fun staff. Will definitely be returning and bringing guests visiting from out of town. P.s. Ashley is a great server!

I REALLY wanted to like this place!!!!! This area needs a good place like this. Perfect spot for military members who work at Little Creek Base. I love all the Navy/Sailor décor and the menu has some great things on it. But, once the food came...I was really disappointed. I ordered one of the burgers and ended up not being able to eat it. They offered to make a new one (it was overcooked on outside and raw on inside), but we did not have time. So, I asked to have their bowl of seasonal fruit. It came out and after one bite I knew it was soaked in lemon juice. It looked at least a day old. I did not eat this either. My husband had a salad and said it was average. The prices were pretty high and I left hungry.

We went here on a Sunday morning for some breakfast fair and the hostess was not very friendly and all the waitresses looked like they were severely unhappy with life . It looked like a slightly WW2 style of dress for the wait staff but was very cute and looked nice. The bartender saved our experience here as she was fabulous at tending bar, serving food, and chatted quite a bit with the three of us. S The food was excellent as I had the eggs with french toast and it was very tasty. The bloody mary was nice and spicy, and the mimosa was good as well. The other dishes looked good too but I don't recall exactly what they were that my wife and friend ordered.

Visited Anchor Allie's today and had a wonderful experience.. Sat at the bar with a girlfriend and got to visit with Allie and her boyfriend.. She wasn't feeling good but I'm glad because we got to meet an awesome woman! I had the sandwich (I forget the name) but it's Ciabatta bread with Grilled fresh Stawberries and balsamic with Brie! Omg! Omg! It melted in my mouth. My girlfriend got a breakfast meal with eggs, hash browns, etc and it looked amazing especially for the price... She also had a bloody which was to die for. I would have had one myself if I wasn't pregnant ;) Allie and Will - keep up the great work and I'll be back soon!! Can't wait to try more things!

The food and staff are wonderful. The menu has a wide variety and the beer selection is great. The only reason for the low score is the wait time for food. Be prepared. I have been here several times for breakfast and it has never taken less than twenty five minutes from ordering until food arrival. Perhaps it was just my luck but my experience has been consistent.

I really, really wanted to like this place. First, the positives. I really love the way they carried out their theme. From the decor, to the pinup-style waitresses, to the menu... The branding of this place is stellar. Unfortunately, the food fell short. I had the crab burger with macaroni salad. The burger was not hand formed at the restaurant and horribly overcooked. The macaroni salad was super bland, the peas inside the salad were overcooked and grey-green. The iced tea was NOT homemade, either, it tasted like it was from a soda tap :( disappointing, since they took the time to put it into a super cute mason jar. Anyway, I think if they as much focus on the preparation of their food as they do on the beautiful branding of the restaurant, I think they would go far. Looking forward to trying it again later to see if the kinks are worked out.

Cutest decor ever! The food is amazing. I tried the blackberry, Brie and honey omelet. Was a little skeptical but it's seasonal and wanted to give it a shot. It had extremely light flavoring and was so so good! The coffee was delicious and the pancakes were perfect! I can't wait to go back and try one of their burgers.
(5)Bri S.
I had a special it was a wonderful salad with tuna coconut pineapple and peppers very delicious! Love the decor and it was especially nice to have the owners drop by and say hi. The service was outstanding.

Went here for brunch with my husband. I had a breakfast burrito and although there were a couple of issues I would definitely go back and try again. My husband had a burger and onion rings with a sauce that he was crazy about. Our waitress was attentive and the owner was really pleasant. They are opening another restaurant closer to Town Center and we will definitely go there.

We stopped in here for sunday lunch after finding Toulas out of business sadly. We were greeted and sat right away. The minimal nautical motif is nice the menu could use some help but hey they are new. My Pastrami sandwich was on point my wifes grilled brie with strawberries and balsimic vinegar not so much the waitress seeing the look at one bite got her a regular grilled cheese and said nobody leaves hungry+++ much better. Great service, 2nd visit a great burger we will be back

I just had lunch today for the first time at Anchor Allie's and I was rather surprised. First let me say that I noticed this place a few weeks ago, but at night the blue in the sign is hard to read. It's extremely easy to see from the road, but the blue makes it difficult to make out the letters. But, this place is walking distance from my house so I thought I would try it out. As other reviews have mentioned, the name and decor are nautical/Navy which is cool, as were the uniforms that the waitress' were wearing. The old school theme of the uniforms along with the music and decor gives it a great atmosphere. I arrived almost at noon exactly at the place was packed, so I was sat at the bar. The gentleman next to me ordered a surf/turf omelette (I can't recall the menu name), but it was quite a generous portion and it looked delicious. He confirmed how tasty it was. I ordered the "Captain", a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and it was outstanding. I was extremely surprised at how good it was. The lettuce was fresh and crisp and the chicken breast was cooked perfectly. It took some time to arrive, but a meal cooked to order will take some time, and for me that is value added. The portion was very generous and I'm glad I brought my appetite. Had I not been as hungry as I was, I doubt I would have been able to finish it all! All of the waitresses there (my waitress was Izzy or Lizzy, I cannot recall exactly at this time) and she was very friendly and attentive to myself and the other customers sitting at the bar area. I don't recall seeing a kid's section of the menu, so perhaps there is a separate kids menu. I will definitely be back and will recommend this place to others. Two thumbs up.

Stop in for a lunch date with my mom and was treated by an amazingly friendly staff! Our server Ashley made an fantastic patriotic themed mix drink (Hey, its 5 o clock somewhere) and was very helpful in picking out what we wanted to order. They also have a few nifty 1950s pop culture magazine to look through at the table that really compliments the atmosphere. I ordered The Blue Angel Burger which came with a medium rare burger, lump crab meat, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado on a pretzel bun - it was absolutely phenomenal! The onion rings were also quite good. My mom ordered the Rueben and potato salad which she seemed to love. The boss came out to make sure we were happy and satisfied with our meal and told us everything was homemade and the potato salad was actually her grandpas secret recipe! Overall this place has an amazing atmosphere with stellar food and all its employees offer more congeniality and spirit than any place in VB! Will definitely be returning to what may soon be a fav local spot of mine.

I love the theme here, and the staff is very friendly! The menu is pretty good too. I had the Corpsman Sandwich, which is actually a cheeseburger topped with an egg and bacon. I ordered my burger medium rare and the egg over easy, and they were done just right! My only complaint was the home fries which seemed a little undercooked. They told me they were adjusting the recipe and that normally they're a little more well done. The owner also makes their cupcakes from scratch and was serving red velvet cupcakes. They were not too sweet and didn't have an overwhelming amount of icing. I definitely plan on coming here again!

This place is wonderful on all levels. ...the food is amazing (I will add I have only had breakfast) ...they have guava mimosas and both times I have been there the service was beyond good. I hate to eat alone but went in anyway and was given amazing magazines from the 50's to keep me entertained. The food is different in a good way...love love love this place....

I had a hankerin' for some breakfast food, so I went here for brunch with a friend of mine. She said the food wasn't good, but it had a cool atmosphere, and it was the only breakfast place she knew of. It took close to 45 minutes to get two pieces of bacon, two eggs, a piece of toast, and a bowl of grits. I have no clue how it's possible to take that long on that kind of order considering how many patrons can fit in there. It was full, but there are hardly any tables, so that's not saying much. My "over medium" eggs were well done. There was nothing different about that simple breakfast to ever make me crave it again. The bartender was super sweet and on point, so sit at the bar! I can't believe I spent that much time there. My tab was $18 for my meal and a side of hash browns, an orange juice, and a coke. I guess that's about average price for two people to eat out, but I can't see myself going back any time soon. If they had more staff in the kitchen to get people's food out in a timely manner, they could probably make a decent profit in my professional opinion. The menu was military-themed which was pretty cute, and all the waitresses were super cute and friendly. Get more staff in the kitchen, guys!

Nice spot to have breakfast. We enjoyed the nautical decor and names for menu items along with the music (Bon Jovi, Elvis songs). We ordered the Anchor with scrambled eggs and bacon. They were accommodating when we asked for avocado slices instead of toast. The food was fresh and cooked just right.
(4)Alan C.
I ordered the Buffalo chicken omlette...Never before have I contemplated having Buffalo chicken in an omlette... Pretty fantastic, I gotta say. ..I substituted the Bleu cheese for feta. .. perfection. ..Breakfast all day, nice atmosphere and a pleasant and pretty staff that greeted us warmly upon entering. .. The owner came over and greeted us, asked how everything was... awesome food and awesome service. .. highly recommended!

Great breakfast menu. Very affordable, have to try their strawberry mimosa!!! Can't wait to come again.

Great food and atmosphere! While visiting the area, a friend suggested that I visit Anchor Allie's and boy, am I glad I did. The service was friendly and fast. The food was delicious and fresh. The atmosphere of the old-time military theme is catchy and neat. Overall, this was a great restaurant (though small in size) that packed a big punch.
(5)Bill B.
Great locally owned restaurant which means twice as much of your money recirculates in the community. Try the Frogman Burrito.
(4)Jan E.
Anchor Allies is a fairly new restaurant on shore dr! The nautical theme is super cute and the menu is uniquely interesting and yummy! It was super busy but we were actually greeted by Allison, the owner herself! Our waitress was Dani who was very nice and knowledgable of the menu items. My new brunch spot :)
(5)Craig L.
Been here lots of times. Great food for sure. Since it's small it can get busy at times.
(5)Kory C.
Great vibe, beautiful fun staff, and great very fresh food here. Just moved across the street plan on going here once a weekend.
(5)Dance M.
Food was good, service was good. Nothing negative to say, but nothing wowed me enough to go back. The theme inside is nice and I wish much luck to the owner. Being a local restaurant owner is hard so I hope they can make it and stay open for the reviewers that really like it there.

I'm not quite sure what "J David H." Was talking about for several reasons. The first being that the motif was confusing. I didn't get that vibe at all and considering that their name is Anchor Allie's I would expect a nautical theme and think the girls look so cute in their sailor outfits. As far as the food goes, you won't be disappointed! Everything is made in house and is delicious. I had the crab cake sandwich and it's just as good if not better than any of the top seafood places on shore drive. The burger was also fabulous and is probably the best burger on shore drive. All of the staff is friendly and attentive and made our visit so enjoyable. We will be back with friends very soon! Thanks so much for the awesome food and friendly conversation!
(5)Ryan K.
I've eaten here twice so far and both times have been amazing. I had the breakfast burrito and the vanilla French toast, both were delicious in their own ways. The service was great as well. All the servers are super nice and accommodating. Definitely going to make this a staple.
(4)Jaimes O.
What a cute little place! no complaints on this review. the decor was cute, the food was creative and delicious, and the service was great. We will be back soon! Thanks Lauren for a great experience :)
(5)Mindy F.
I have been there twice. Once for lunch which was great. The homemade potato salad was yummy. However when I returned with high hopes for breakfast I was disappointed. It was crowded which I did not mind except for the fact that the tables are VERY close so you were almost touching elbows with other customers while eating. Also the breakfast came out cold. I would go back for lunch again...but will choose a different restaurant for breakfast...
(3)Virginia H.
The service (waitress: Natalie), drinks, and atmosphere are great! The only complaint that I have, is that my burger was sweet. I think they put sugar in the ground meat. Why?!?!
(3)Emily D.
Always quality food and bev. And always served with a smile. Coming here is like going to your girlfriends house! I love it and will miss it when I move.
(5)Melissa R.
The food and service were just ok. I ordered an omelet and homefries and there wasn't much taste to either of them. My husband ordered a sandwich and said how good it was but he agreed that the service could use an improvement. When we walked in we were greeted right away and shown to our table. We ordered our drinks and they came out right away then our waitress walked away and didn't come back to take our order for over ten minutes. It wasn't very crowded and it seemed like most of the other customers were waiting on their checks. Our waitress was nice but seemed a little overwhelmed. The owner could have been a little bit nicer. She didn't look very happy and stood behind the bar the entire time. As a new restaurant she should have been talking to each table and introducing herself as the owner and asking how the food was. We will probably go back and see how other meals are and if their service improves.
(3)Mike M.
I just noticed this place recently tucked away in the corner of the Shore Dr. shopping center shared by Kroger and the CHKD Thrift Store. The restaurant looks great, and I love that they went with a military/pin-up motif. My wife and I went for breakfast, which was great. The scrambled eggs looked like those that come premixed, so next time I'll get fried eggs. A day later we got dinner to go - a burger and a chicken sandwich. Make sure you get a punch card, you buy 8 meals and get the next one free.
(4)Debbie B.
Friendly staff and wonderful food!
(5)Rodney S.
Great place try it out, only reason I didn't go 5 stars is because there is limited seating, other than that it is good to go
